Pavones is about 8 degrees above the equator; technically in the northern hemisphere.
Yet, the seasons here are the same as the southern hemisphere. On December 21st, we entered summer. The kids are out of school from mid-December until mid-February. We are entering the dry, hot season. Sunrise for the next a couple of days is 5:47 am and sunset is 5:20. In June, the rains starts and builds to a crescendo in November. Sunrise is around 5:17 am with sunset as late as 5:58 pm. So December 21st was our shortest day of the year, ergo the "winter" solstice. The temperatures run about 79-85° F or 26-29° C during the day. At night, it cools down just a smidge.
