Unleashing my Inner Nature Photographer

So, this, not so little, creature gave me a sharp reminder that you always have to shake

out your stuff: towels, shoes, hats etc. I washed my face yesterday and walked out to the 2nd floor balcony to grab my towel that was hanging in the sun. As I brought the towel to my face, it felt like it was moving and I felt a sharp hit to my chest. Yikes! This scorpion was almost 4" long. I wasn't too worried about poison as I'd heard that scorpions in CR are not venomous and the larger it is the less powerful the sting. I did take a Benadryl immediately. I was surprised that this scorpion had climbed up to the 2nd story. I captured and walked it down to the end of the driveway. It scrambled off into the undergrowth. I hope never to see it again.

As I was weeding this morning and unearthed a tiny black scorpion just under an 1" long. Fortunately, it ran off into the grass.

The rest of my encounters with our insect neighbors have been benign. I don't know exactly what this insect is. It was hunkered down on the terrace. It spent the whole day there.

Towels seem to be a big attraction to the local insect population. I think this is some kind of grasshopper. Or maybe it is a "walking stick" insect. I see a couple of different types of grasshoppers trying to make a break for the inside of the house especially at night. I guess that they are attracted to the lights. Even though we have screens on all the windows and doors, we still have dozens of flying insects inside the house. We open and close the screens quickly, however, these enterprising bugs just want to be close to us.

Fortunately for M, there are very few mosquitos. The mossies just love to bite him. Me, not so much

In the evenings, we mostly see moths flying around our light fixtures in the bathroom or kitchen. I found this moth having a daytime nap on the spout of my water bottle.

And this cute little lizard was making the trek across our 1st floor tile terrace. I'm not sure what its goal was. We don't have anything organic on the terrace that would be of interest.

Even here, I always shake out stuff before using it or sticking my feet in there. We had scorpions at my Sweetwater. Gawd.
