Part of our morning routine is walking the property to check out new growth on the various fruits and vegetables that we have planted. We were down at the north edge of the property by one of the pineapple "plantations" when we heard movement in the upper canopy of the trees that line the quebrada (creek.) The eastern boundary of our finca is bordered by a quebrada that runs down a narrow gorge. The jungle grows deep and strong along the path of the running water. Descending into this leafy green world is like moving into a more primitive time.
As we heard the commotion in the upper branches, we spotted the local mono titi troupe that travels by our house. The monkeys will stop to eat the fruit and nuts on the upper branches of the trees. They keep a cautious eye where we stand far below as the chew their breakfast.
