After almost 24 hours of travel, we arrived with all luggage (suitcases, board, massage table, backpacks, box, bowl bag) in tact. M & I were even speaking to each other. Not just that clipped civility that some couples revert to when tempers are frazzled. We were smiling and almost giddy that our journey had unfolded with barely a hitch.
Fortunately, M opted for an "Armstrong Upgrade" at San José airport & hired a porter to haul our stuff. At Fresno & Guadalajara, we jockeyed 3 trolleys. Our progess across the airports looked like a crab-walk. The porter was so helpful. As Michael went to pick up a CR SIM card for his cell, I stood at the luggage carrousel to retrieve. With foresight, M placed colorful duct tape on all the suitcases. Without the tape, I never would have identified most of our luggage. In the last few months, we scoured all the Goodwill stores from Pacific Grove to Salinas to buy used rolling suitcases. Most of them were hard-used; one is missing a wheel. I barely know what size, color or style. I was surprised to see that one of our suitcases is an attractive hunter green.
We just flew through Immigration & Customs. The Customs officers glanced at the Customs forms and as all 14 pieces rolled through the X-ray machine, the officers chatted amongst themselves. On the curb, there was a very large Taxi van. We loaded up and drove 30 minutes to our pensione.
