If you are ever in San José and want to clear your nasal passages while enjoying a delicious balance of ginger, scallions, sesame, Restaurante Espacio Picante is the place. This unassuming looking establishment is just across the street from our hotel. We weren't sure if we wanted to eat there until I checked our the reviews on TripAdvisor. #tripadvisor In our travels, I've often referred to TripAdvisor before eating at a restaurant. I find the user reviews very informative. Though I don't like how TripAdvisor "follows" you around. I had the app on my cell with location services activated. Each time that I was at Pebble Beach Equestrian Center, I'd always get a notification to try the "Tap Room" at the Lodge. #pebblebeachresorts I found that very annoying & intrusive. I digress...
Restaurante Espacio Picante offers an outstanding Hot Pot. Our server who was Costa Rican was very helpful in explaining the dining experience, patient with all our questions and offered great taste recommendations.
We opted for the Sopa media offering 2 broths: spicy and normal. Guess which broth is spicy. The Hot Pot menu lists is a full page of items for cooking. We selected shrimp wontons, fish balls, portobello mushrooms and chinese cabbage. The dipping sauce is a delightful combination of fresh ginger, scallions, soya sauce, sesame oil & fish paste.
Looks delicious!
